The Bill of Rights

This is an absolute must read. We live in an era where not only do our "leaders" not understand that their role is to follow, they clearly do not pay any heed to the limits placed upon them. We have had chief executives of both parties who view the Constitution they've sworn to uphold as a minor annoyance. We have an incoming Vice President who cannot remember which Article deals with the Congress, and which the Executive. Our courts look to foreign sources for "authority" rather than to our own founding documents. In the midst of an economic malaise, raised by our media to a catastrophe, we find again the government arrogating to itself powers that it is expressly prohibited from wielding, and obligating our grandchildren to pay the ballooning debts of today.

Long ago I took an oath to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." In the thirty years since then, I've never had to think as hard about what that means as in the last six months. An astute observer can see the signs of a coming catastrophe all around. When will enough of the people notice the Bill of Rights to make a difference in the Nation's course?

Get Ready

This is a must read. Stand by for inflation that makes the 70's look like the good old days. I don't know if it's the best strategy, but I'm working hard to discharge as much debt as I possibly can. I figure that fewer monthly payments means more money available to pay increasing costs. I'm also embarking on a food storage program to help get over any future rough spots.

The current low prices for gas are not a good sign. Rather, they indicate a fundamental weakness in the economy. Get ready.

I Fear for the Republic

I've often told my children that our country can survive any president. I'm no longer so sure of that. While I'll never forgive John McCain for the unconstitutional assault on free speech that is McCain-Feingold, the Obama campaign has shown a predilection for far worse.

With Obama we have a candidate whose campaign has marshaled "truth squads" to threaten its opponents with the power of the state in Missouri, has repeatedly asked its supporters to shout down its opposition, and has asked the Justice Department to prosecute those with whom it disagrees. All of this when presented with opposition claims that are demonstrably true. An Obama administration would also be likely to reinstate the so-called "fairness doctrine." So much for the first amendment.

We also have in Obama a candidate who claims to believe that the second amendment secures an individual right to keep and bear arms, yet believes that it's perfectly alright for city and state governments to abrogate those rights, as if one's constitutional rights depend upon where one resides. Further, he's served on the board of directors of the avowedly anti-gun Joyce Foundation. In the past, he's supported complete bans on the sales of semi-automatic firearms, and bans on the sale of ammunition capable of penetrating body armor. The former would ban my Ruger 10/22 .22LR, and two of my sporting shotguns. The latter would ban virtually every deer rifle. He also favors bans on "assault weapons" although there is absolutely no difference in function or mechanics between a non-assault weapon Saiga and an evil assault weapon semi-auto AK clone with military style furniture.

With all of the above, we also see daily assertions that to disagree with Obama is inherently racist. We also see virtually every major media organization in the nation not only biased in favor of Obama, but actively discouraging stories which might harm him. How else to explain the lack of interest in his ties to radicals, his acceptance of huge donations from FannieMae and FreddieMac, and his history of hardball Chicago-style machine politics?

Finally, we have a developing cult of personality that has countless images of the candidate surrounded by halos, or looking beatifically upward, and that demands nothing, while offering only "hope" and "change" and chants "yes we can" while never quite explaining what might be hoped for, what changes might be expected, and what deeds accomplished.

With all of that, this needs no further comment:

Whose Policies Failed?

I'm much more a libertarian than I am a Republican, but I can tell you this; I will never vote for another Democrat as long as I live. There are lots of things that I don't agree with the current administration on, but they saw the problems with Fannie and Freddie years ago and tried to address them. John McCain tried to address them. Frank and Dodd blocked the reforms. My retirement accounts have taken a twenty-percent hit because of these fascist idiots while their friends have gotten richer, and now they want to spend almost a trillion dollars of tax payer money to kick the can further down the road while continuing to ignore the systemic problems they created. God help us all if Obama wins the presidency.

Racism?

Being a bitter conservative white guy clinging to his God and his guns, I am automatically assumed to be a racist. This is tough to swallow for the guy, who as a kid, memorized Dr. King's "I have a dream" speech because it talked about the America he wanted to help create. I've been a Republican for most of my life, and understand the abolitionist roots of the party and its history at the leading edge of the civil rights movement. That the Democrat party has hijacked that legacy and persuaded black Americans that their futures are best secured by them is one of those things making him bitter.

The NC primary results show 90% of black voters pulling the lever for Obama. The sleezy Chicago politician, with no more claim to the "black experience" in America than your humble correspondent, has convinced them "hope" and "change" are essential, with never an articulation of what might be hoped for, and what changes must be made. This is demagoguery of the highest order. The Democrat party has ruined the black family, trapped their children in failed schools, and taught them their existence depends on the government. Government becomes the benevolent master who provides for all needs. The strength and potential of another generation is wasted by the seductive promise that hard work, skill and determination are not necessary for success.

What a shame.

Neglect

Wow, over a year since I've touched this blog. It's not like there's nothing happening in the world that I'm interested in. More the lack of a decent computer for most of that time. I'll have to change that after I pay off the spouse's dental work, buy the P-01 and a couple of mags, and finish the AR build.
